South Florida outdoor events have one reliable uninvited guest: mosquitoes. From backyard weddings in Boca Raton to corporate dinners on Fort Lauderdale Intracoastal properties, mosquito pressure can turn a well-planned event into a miserable experience. Event Shield is our one-time professional mosquito treatment for outdoor events — same formula, same results, no ongoing commitment required.
How Event Shield works: We treat the full outdoor event space 24 to 48 hours before your event. The treatment clears mosquitoes from resting habitat surrounding your guests, with a rain-shield polymer that holds through Florida weather. Dry time is 15 minutes. Guests arrive to a space that has been professionally treated — without any odor or visible residue.
Why Professional Treatment Beats DIY for Events
Most homeowners reach for candles, tabletop repellent fans, or store-bought spray when planning an outdoor event. Here is an honest comparison:
| Method | Coverage | Duration | Reality |
| Citronella candles | ~3 ft radius | While burning | Aesthetic only in South Florida conditions |
| Tabletop repellent fans | Personal space only | While running | Helps individuals, not spaces |
| Consumer yard spray (hose-end) | Partial | Hours | Misses resting sites; washes off quickly |
| Thermacell devices | 15 ft radius per unit | While active | Requires multiple units; heat required |
| Event Shield (professional) | Full property | 10–17 days | Targets resting habitat; rain-shield included |

Commercial Venues: Ongoing vs. One-Time Treatment
For commercial venues with regular outdoor events — restaurant patios, hotel pools, wedding venues, country clubs — we recommend our ongoing program rather than one-time Event Shield. Regular treatment every 10 to 17 days maintains continuous suppression so you are never scrambling to book treatment before a last-minute reservation.
We work with several outdoor dining and event venues throughout Broward and Palm Beach County on this basis. Commercial rates are available for multi-treatment agreements.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I schedule mosquito treatment before an outdoor event?
We recommend scheduling Event Shield treatment 24 to 48 hours before your event. This gives the product time to fully dry and bond to foliage (dry time is 15 minutes, but the rain-shield polymer strengthens over a few hours), while keeping the treatment as fresh as possible for your event. For events happening Friday evening, a Thursday afternoon treatment is ideal. For weekend events, Friday treatment is the sweet spot. We can also treat the morning of the event if that is the only option — the 15-minute dry time means guests can be outside within a half hour of our departure.
How long does a one-time mosquito treatment last?
A single barrier spray treatment remains effective for 10 to 17 days under normal conditions. Our rain-shield polymer keeps the product on foliage through South Florida rain. For a Saturday evening party, a Friday treatment gives you full protection. If you have a multi-day event or consecutive weekend events, we can schedule accordingly. The treatment is the same formula we use for our regular Mosquito Shield clients — it is not a diluted or short-duration product.
What types of events do you treat for?
We treat backyard parties, wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, graduation parties, corporate events, family reunions, holiday gatherings, and any other outdoor event where mosquito pressure would affect guest comfort. We also treat commercial outdoor venues on a one-time or recurring basis — restaurant patios, hotel pool decks, HOA community events, golf club events, and marina gatherings. The only practical requirement is outdoor space with vegetation to treat.
Is it safe for guests, children, and pets at the event?
Yes. Our Mosquito Protection Blend is bee-certified, contains no neonicotinoids, and is EPA-registered. The 15-minute dry time is the only required interval before people and pets return to the treated area. Once dry, the product is bonded to foliage and does not transfer to skin on contact with treated plants. We always treat 15 to 30 minutes before guests arrive when scheduling same-day treatment. For children's parties or events with pets, we are happy to discuss the specific formula and application approach in advance.
Can you treat a venue or property that is not currently a Mosquito Shield customer?
Yes. Event Shield is available as a standalone one-time service — no existing service relationship required. We will quote the property based on size and vegetation coverage, treat before your event, and you are done. Many clients start with Event Shield, experience the results firsthand, and convert to our regular 10 to 17 day program. We offer new Event Shield clients a discounted first regular treatment if they choose to start a program.
What areas around the venue do you treat?
We treat the full perimeter of the outdoor event space: fence lines and hedges, the understory of trees and large palms where mosquitoes rest during the day, ground cover and dense shrubs adjacent to the gathering area, and the perimeter of any covered outdoor structures (pergolas, tiki huts, tent areas). We treat everything around the event space but avoid direct application on food, beverages, or food preparation areas. The goal is to clear the resting habitat surrounding guests.
